Taco Tapes
With a name like Taco Tapes and a venue like Pengilly’s Saloon, I knew I had my evening set for a cold Friday night at Treefort festival in Boise. Pengilly’s is a place I’ve heard of before, with acts I’ve liked and when in Boise, you hit the saloon.
Taco Tapes is a 6ish peice band, formed by Jeremy James Meyer and Ben Walden, who are basically the self described latest embodiments of Jerry Garcia and Dave Grisman. And with a description like that, combined with the saloon, I planted myself front and center of the quaint little stage and watched them cram 6 people with instruments on stage. A deep voiced scruffy Meyer on guitar, along with Walden on electric guitar crooned their way through a super fun set filled with a trumpet, keys, harmonica and a mandolin. The crowd was packed from front to back, and it felt like these were some fans who came specifically to see these boys, and danced their way through the set filled with americana/county/folk riffs and had me feeling like I was watching some friends have the best time on stage making great music.
I’m thrilled I caught Taco Tapes at the festival and can’t wait to see them in Portland.
